Re: Losing my video (goes black) during trimming

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I'm having the same problem. When i trim the beginning of the clip, or
make a cut, the video in the new cut goes black, although audio still
plays. I've been banging my head against a wall here for a while, made
sure i have the newest nvidia drivers, tried the vista codec pack and
then uninstalled it and intalled KLite instead (although they have the
same ffdshow version), all to no avail.

I do feel like i've made some progress, though. Before all these codec
installations the video on the preview pane was very choppy, and now
it's silky smooth. Also, the thumbnail in the timeline for the clipped
fragment was nonexistent before, now it's at least a green rectanagle.

It seems like there's some sort of video overlay over my image.
Somehow i suspect microsoft's copy protection is covering up my video
somehow.

It's also curious that when i make a cut (split a clip into sections A
and B), but leave A in the timeline, B plays fine given that i played A
first. If i remove A from the timeline, B looses video. If i trim the
beginning of the original clip, the same happens. If i place a
transition between A and B, B looses video no matter what. It's almost
as if there's some information at the beginning of the clip needed for
windows to know what to do with it. It seems like that shouldn't be the
case.

SPECS:
OS: Vista home premium x64
Camcorder: Poparoid HD Camcorder (DVC00725F)
Video Format: H.264 AVI
Codec Installed: ffdshow (2/24/2009 version)
Video Card: nVidia gforce 9600gt (newest drivers as of 2/26/09)

[probably doesn't matter, but]
CPU: Athlon X2 4200
RAM: 2GB DDR2-800

Please help. I don't know what to do. I can't properly edit my movies
without being able to trim my clips and make cuts. I've tried other
software like AVI splitter and get the same result (video is lost if i
remove the beginning)
