Re: XP - WMM closes if I click on import video

II think you may have asked me that before - sorry for not answering that, I
wasn't sure what "source files" meant.
What I Usually do is make little movies from my video clips & pictures
(from my canon powershot camera. Most come off (not sure of the phrase) as
jpg and the video clips avi. I put the SD card in the reader then transfer
everything (except the thumb files that I delete - because they mess with my
"Acronis" back up system) to one of my picture files, then what I was doing
was making short movies with wmm then after saving them, putting them on
Nero, adding up to 2 hours worth and burning them on DVD. It was all pretty
automatic - until.....
I also prefer the windows Microsoft office picture manager for editing my
pictures, maybe because I am use to it, but it does everything I need it to
do (between that and Paint).

Most all my pictures are jpg, bmp, gif and I use to have a few Tiff (from
my old dimage camera), I guess it just depends on who sends them to me and
what camera they used - ???

What I was trying to do most recently - when I probable started having the
most issues (and getting application errors) was take a part of a DVD (that I
had dubbed from one of my VHS home tapes) and make a little movie out of
that, so I could put it on myspace - so my family could see it.
I got it cut down to the part I wanted and then....
I just put the DVD in to see if I could go through the same steps and I can
not even get it to open. Another issue with Nero and the inCD (DLA or
whatever --- went through hours of misery with that stuff one time too)
probable.

I do not have high def. And I am not really sure if I have a "normal"
process. (besides the making DVD movies from my canon pictures that will play
in everyone's DVD players and I can download on MySpace)
I think you are suggesting that I can NOT just do Everything with one
program so I need to get it broke down to "most import to me" of what I want
to do.
Dang it, cuz I like to try different things....

Wow - did there use to be a perfect all-purpose software for free? LOL.
All purpose would be great, do they even make it?
Like I said I did Buy NCH over a year ago, seams it was about $70.00. I had
for some reason downloaded their free trial stuff and was having good luck so
I bought it, but turned out it did not come with the actual stuff I needed,
like the video converter (though I thought I bought the suite) so of course
they wanted me to buy more - That was the end of me using that.

Then I tried (or maybe it was before) the trial Nero and ran into all the
issues of conflict there including my DVD drives so un-installed it, then for
some reason a few months ago (June I think) I Bought it (?? go figure)
another $60.00.
I had tried the Coral trial version and was going to buy it BUT there
support was in Canada I think and Not very supportive, so I think that is why
I went back to Nero.

I'm not sure if when my automatic updates (windows, office And other) update
things if that is possible for issues - Do you know?

Can I have to many codec things?

I read somewhere on your web that you can actually look at my computer, I
can't remember the charge for that, but even if I paid you to look at it,
your not going to guarantee me you can fix it, set me up with something that
will do all the video stuff I want it to and NOT mess with any other programs
I use - Are you?

When I first got this Dell computer everything worked great, no issues, lots
of room. It was my second computer and I loved it. Not until I started using
other software (trials or complete) did I have any issues. And they pretty
much guaranteed that. I learned (not that I practice what I know) if you buy
it all together they have all ready gotten the bugs out so make sure you buy
Everything to start with. But alas I did not know what I wanted for sure.

Money is an issue - but I Need something that will work and I need to know
how to work it (support is important). I'm will to pay for another program if
there is one out there that will work!
I would need to know things like, do I uninstall all this other stuff (Nero,
Nch) do I delete drivers or codecs or????

Again,
Thanks

You don't really talk about the kinds of source files you mostly use. They
could be camcorders recording to tapes, DVDs, hard drives, or flash media.
They could be video clips you're ripping off DVDs and online sites like
YouTube. They might be regular definition or high def.

If I knew your 'normal' process I might suggest something... and your target
budget might come into play. As this is the Movie Maker newsgroup, I can
only assume you would like what most users want, the perfect all-purpose
software for free. Today that's 'dreaming'.

I had tried reducing the Graphics Hardware Acceleration a couple times and
I
just tried it again, even booting my computer after each try this time. It
did not seam to do anything different.

I am wondering why I would want to uninstall sp3 as I have had it for
quite
sometime now so why would it just Now be casuing issues? The automatic
updates?

This is getting more upsetting by the day as It is Christmas time and the
grandkids will be here and I will not be able to do anything with video's.

The Nero nor the WMM is working.
Dang it....

I guess I should have know better (even though I did have a few months of
making DVD's) than to buy Nero as I had had some pretty major issues
before
with just the trial, but I wanted to be able to just click a button and
Burn
my video's to DVD and since MM only can be burned on CD's it wasn't
working
for me. The Nero seamed eaisier to transfer everything, maybe it was the
recoding stuff, I don't know.

So let me ask this - is there something that does work (proven to work)
with
windows XP that I can (do it all) edit video's, make my home movie and
burn
on DVD's that can be watched on everyone's stand alone DVD players? OH
Yeah
AND that can recode what ever type of picture or video I am working with a
click of a button.
- I also a couple years ago purchased NCH, turned out after I bought it I
had to buy more stuff as it was only working for music (can't remember
exacatly what the issue was, but I paid for something I really did not
need)

HELP - Tell me what to buy that Will do it all.....
or am I dreaming?

Thanks for everyone's suggestions, ready for some new ones.

Well this is weird.
Just went to the nero vision to see why I was not just using it
instead of trying to fix wmm - and I got the messagage something like
this -
The instruction a "0x7c928beb referenced memory at "0x000000" The
memory could not be "read". trying again to add a video to it I get
the message again. (I think the first one said something about
applicaation error too)

Then I went back and saw you had replied so I went back to movie
maker to make sure all were un-checked then to make sure I could
still import pictures. I imported a couple from the place I had been
which is the file I last used, then went to a previous year picture
file and before I could click or as soon as I did -- I got the
message exacatly: The instruction a "0x7c928beb referenced memory at
"0x000000" The memory could not be "read". click ok to terminate
the program click on cancel to debug the program.
So I went back to see if I could import more than a couple pictures
from the file that is there becaseu it was the last one I used, it
let me do a few so gambling I tried again to go to previous years and
this time it let me.

You are probable right about this not being just a movie maker issue -
I am just lost. Looks like I start at the beginning - after Christmas
with all the new video clips of Santa....

Am I right to assume you have no suggestions then?
=======================================
It's possible that you have an issue with your
video driver.

Try reducing your Graphics Hardware Acceleration
as per the instructions in the following article.

(272193) PI: How to Troubleshoot
Graphics Issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272193
(scroll down to:
Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP)

If it improves the issue...go to the support
website of your video adapter's mfg. and
search for Vista compatible drivers.

If you don't know the make and model of
your video adapter...check the documentation
that came with the computer.

Also you could try these steps...
Go to...Start / Run...type...
msinfo32 ...press enter.

On the System Information screen...choose...
Components / Display...

You should find the make and model of your
display adapter as well as the driver version.

If the driver on the support website is more
current than the one you are running...
download it and install it. Also you should find
and follow the installation instructions at the
support site.

Once the driver is updated...return your acceleration
to Full.

And...it might be worth a try to uninstall SP3.
