Re: MM won't work after system recovery.

Rather than do a Sys-Restore, I used Erunt, a small registry backup app, and
the registry entry, that I had deleted is back in place. Now, on to reverting
from IE7 to IE6. I realize that not everyone is available to reply at my
convenience, so I will use the option 1, assuming that, because it is listed
first, it should be the most appropriate.

Oops, I forgot to ask, which method of reverting to IE6 is the "best"? First,.
or Second?

Thanks, John, for the response. Do I allow the Update-site to re-install IE7?
I really don't understand about this "rating the response". Why should I
rate a response, that while it is very informative, the problem has not been
cured yet?
Thanking you in advance for your help!

I re-installed windows-XP-Pro-SP2-IE7 and MM opens, but it won't======================================
handle any video files. It won't even re-split clips that I had
joined before with MM. It always worked before. Although, I may have
had MM1. I really don't know. I got some advice in another forum:
1. Click Start > Run...
2. Type regedit and OK.
3. Locate to the following branch:
4. Delete the isinstalled subkey in the right pane.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{CDD7975E-60F8-41d5-8149-19E51D6F71D0}
5. Open Windows Explorer.
6. Locate to C:\WINDOWS\RegisteredPackages
7. Find the Movie Maker 2 files in the
{60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}
folder and rename this folder as "old-
{60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}".
8. Visit Windows Update Website and reinstall Windows Movie Maker 2
again.
I did the first step, but there was no such entry in the
C:\WINDOWS\RegisteredPackages-{60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}
I wanted to un-install the MM and re-install it. But, I can not find
a linkj to overwrite the present app of MM2.
Wow! That's so far out I'm not even sure how
to respond.

I'm thinking I would do a system restore to a
time before the registry changes were made.

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.
It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.
And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.
Hopefully...at this point...Movie Maker 2.1
will be installed on your machine. If it is...
and if it will open...give it a try and post any
problems here before you try repairing or
replacing anything.
