Re: VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE

MM rarely if ever works with USB. Panasonic also use a new video/usb driver
to allow you to capture dv.avi files rather than just mpeg ones.

It's possible you have changed something on the pc which has meant MM no
longer sees the usb port, which could be anything from unistalling or
installing something or a windows update etc

It's a Panasonic NV-GS17 connected to a Dell Dimension 3000 PC via a USB
cable. A week before this problem I completed a film, with the same camera
in
the same USB port as I have 4 or 5 times before so I don't understand why
the
sudden problem. Thanks, Graham, for your reply and I will try a firewire
and
see what happens. The link you gave me looks as though it will help IF I
get
a firewire.

What cam?
What connection?

Do some tests on the cam/cable/pc firewire port, if it is firewire you
are
using as listed on this page

I have made some films before using WMM with no problems. However, using
the
same camcorder, I was surprised when I used it today to get the
following
messages: "The device is not responding. Close any other application
that
is
using the device and try capturing again". I pressed OK and got "The
video
device cannot be used at this time because there has been an error when
starting the device." The device is not showing in the Video Capture
Device
window behind the messages either. What am I doing wrong?
