Re: Green Bar on published videos

I've battled the infamous green bar for a couple of weeks. Explored
conflicting software, the need for a codec, chewed my nails and missed some
deadlines. Then, miracle of miracles, I googled Movie Maker green bar and
the site below popped up: http://www.bernzilla.com/item.php?id=884
I followed the steps listed below in this copy of the instructions from
bernzilla and, poof, the green bar vanished. I burned my clip to DVD and it
plays perfectly.
"have discovered how bad native MPEG4 decoding is under Vista (it seemed to
be dropping framerate or something - jerky panning) and found another
solution. (re-enable the XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder again if you turned it off
using my previous instruction).
Go to <Start Menu><All Programs><XVid><Configure Decoder>. In the <Output>
options, choose <Compatibility Renderer> and click <OK>
This still utilises the XVid MPEG4 codec and resolved the half green screen
issue.
Hope this helps. " It did!

I am trying to edit some family movies which were copied from a vhs==================================
tape to a dvd. I used a trial version of a dvd ripper to copy the
dvd to my computer. (it only allows half the dvd on the trial
version.) Then I edited some clips which looked great on the
preview
screen. But when I publish them I end up with a green bar that
takes
up the lower half of the screen and slightly distorts the picture.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?
Since you used the word *publish* I suspect
that you are running Vista? This newsgroup
is focused on Windows XP...try the following

I don't have a definite answer for your question but
I can tell you that Movie Maker can have issues
with MPEG files and converting them to .wmv is
usually a viable alternative. Just because a clip
plays successfully in WMP11 is no guarantee
that it will perform 100% in Movie Maker.
The trial version of the following program can
convert .mpeg to .wmv. If the converted files
continue to cause issues...at least you ruled it
out as a possible solution.
