I am trying to edit some family movies which were copied from a vhs==================================
tape to a dvd. I used a trial version of a dvd ripper to copy the
dvd to my computer. (it only allows half the dvd on the trial
version.) Then I edited some clips which looked great on the
preview
screen. But when I publish them I end up with a green bar that
takes
up the lower half of the screen and slightly distorts the picture.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?
Since you used the word *publish* I suspect
that you are running Vista? This newsgroup
is focused on Windows XP...try the following

I don't have a definite answer for your question but
I can tell you that Movie Maker can have issues
with MPEG files and converting them to .wmv is
usually a viable alternative. Just because a clip
plays successfully in WMP11 is no guarantee
that it will perform 100% in Movie Maker.
The trial version of the following program can
convert .mpeg to .wmv. If the converted files
continue to cause issues...at least you ruled it
out as a possible solution.
