combine audio

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Im having trouble with combining 2 side by side audio clips that I had split
up prior. I rechecked the help file to see f i was doing it correctly & i
think so. I push te ctrl key and choose the 2 consequtive clips & 'combine'
is always greyed out (as well as the 'split') what can i do? i am trying
this in the timeline.
