Hi,

I am a beginner to WMM and to Video editing in general. I tried uploading
Video from my Panasonic PVGS-300 Camcorder to my Windows XP PC (768 MB RAM
and 200 GB HD). The process Looks Pathetically Slow. Takes about 3-4 hours
to
just capture the video from the device. This is at the default resolution
(Best Quality for playback on a computer). Then, If I select the option of
saving the movie, it takes anywhere between 4 - 8 hours to save the movie.
Am
I doing Something Wrong?

Something is wrong. Obviously capturing shouldn't take any longer than
playing the video and it should be saving as it is capturing. How are you
connected from camera to computer?

Some basic Questions:

1) Capture Video seems to be creating a .avi file. If I just want to
capture
the raw footage from my MiniDV Tape, IS this the file I need?

DV-AVI is the highest quality setting native to Movie Maker but as such it
is going to create a very large file.

2) After the Capture step, I just dragged the file into story board and
saved the "movie". This Saving the movie steps takes about 6 hours, again
at
the default resolution. Is This required if I just want to capture Raw
UnEdited footage from my CamCorder? How is this Movie .avi file different
from the file in Step 1?

No the video is saved to your harddrive upon capture.
If you want the separate split clips to be saved as separate files on yuor
harddrive you would need to save each separately by dragging the clip to the
timeline and then "save movie"

3) There seems to be various hierarchies - Project, Collection etc? What
are
these? Any basic tutorial about these?

It is the same as folders on your computer basically. You can organize your
collections in any way you want. When capturing or importing a new
collection is automatically created but you can move the files wherever you
want after that.
There are many websites that can give you information about Movie Maker.
Google for 'Movie Maker Tutorials' for starters I will list some links to
