John,
Thanks.
I have seen this response to some other posts similar to mine and, though I
don't like the answer, I understand it. I was hoping I wouldn't have to redo
SP2 just to get movie maker.
As for uninstalling MM2.0, since it doesn't show up in add/remove programs,
I can't perform a proper uninstall. I could remove all the files, but there
would still be some traces laying around in the registry, so I am not sure if
removing the files is a good idea. Mostly because I don't know enough about
the registry to start messing around wth it.
Anyway, thanks

I have been searching several microsoft groups but haven't seen my===================================
exact question.
My PC came with xP SP2, but without movie maker.
Because of that, I assume, Automatic Update won't give me Movie Maker.
I saw someone suggest re-installing SP2, and I am simply not going to
do that. I did find MM 2.0 from a c|net download page, but it hangs
every time I open the clip I want to edit. It also didn't register
itself properly, so uninstall is not the simplest thing to figure out.
So, having wasted enough time of anyone who is reading this, my
question is twofold, if anyone knows:
1) Is there any way to get automatic update to give me movie maker 2.1
without reinstalling all of sp2?
2) Is there a way of properly uninstalling movie maker 2.0?
Thanks in advance
steve
Movie Maker 2.1 is installed as a component
of WinXP SP2 (there is no separate download).
If you are running SP2 and do not have MM2.1...
read the following:
Go to...Start / Run...type..."moviemk.exe"...
press...Enter. If Movie Maker is installed
it should launch.

As for Movie Maker 2.0...if you cannot
uninstall it from Add-Remove programs...
you may have system issues. It may be
worth a try to do a System Restore to a
time before you installed it.
If you decide to reinatall SP2...the following

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.
It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.
And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.
