Well, I don't know about that. Everything else I have runs just fine. I'm not
surprised an SP2 install attempt hangs. I've got dozens of post SP2 Windows
hotpatches and fixes installed on top of it.
So, alas, there's no way I'm going to reformat then reinstall (24 hours
work, minimum) just to *maybe* get Window's lousy movie maker running because
Microsoft refuses to make a reasonable system for uninstalling and
reinstalling it available.
Sigh... And Mr. Softy wonders why Apple can get away with those "I'm a PC,
I'm a Mac" commercials. It's because of garbage "me-too" product attempts
like these that necessitate so many hundreds of newsgroup hours just to keep
the software working, rather than simply working.
It's so painfully evident -- and has been for years -- that Msoft needed to
come up with a clean uninstall and reinstall for WMM.
Anyway, thanks for the attempts. I believe the easiest thing to do is simply
give up on this POS software on this machine.

System Restore might help...if you have older
restore points available...go back a week
....a month...etc...might be worth a try.
I've looked at these but none seem to go back far enough to matter.
And as a side note, they don't always work. Just today I made a
restore point, uninstalled IE 7, confirmed it didn't help, then went
back to that restore point. Like magic, IE 7 no longer worked. Had to
uninstall it yet again then reinstall. :(
Have you tried downloading a copy of SP2
to your hard drive and installing from there?
I have, and SP2 hangs and stops installing at a certain point. I'm
not sure I can get it to reinstall properly. I've tried several
times. Perhaps my download is corrupt and I need to try again, but it
appears to be fine and runs well enough, at least until it hangs and
never recovers...
Sounds like you have system problems...
maybe a reformat is in order.
