It could be a faulty cable, pc port or camcorder port.
Try the testing on this page to see which if any.

It could be other things, but if we rule out faulty stuff first it'll be
easier going forward.

The conenction with the camera (Sony DCR-PC53E) via fire wire breaks down
after a few seconds.
First Movie Maker reconises the camera, but after a few seconds i get the
message that the connection failed.

I hope somebody knows what to do.
