Pixel problems and audio 'sizzles' when importing video

Hi - and thanks for reading this.
I am running Windows XP SP2 and MM 2.1. I have just got a Canon MVX460 and
when I transfer the video into MM I am getting little pixel boxes flash up
on the screen every few seconds. It shows on the import and also on the
video when I play it back from MM - but it's fine on the camera. I also get
little 'sizzles' on the audio. The video itself looks fine in MM - apart
from the problems mentioned. It's not distorted or poor quality but I don't
know why I'm having the problems.
My machine is an Athlon AMD 2400+ with a gig of RAM.
I have already been advised not to use the C drive and to make sure that
nothing else is running, but the result is the same.
Thanks for any help.
