Re: Reduced audio/video quality in timeline

I had thought the same at first but the saved movie is in a lower
quality. As with Rob, it used to work much better and then I started
having the issues which is what made me think that going through the
trouble of reinstalling MM was worth a shot. It wasn't.
I have made sure that I have planty of HDD space, disable antivirus
SW system scan, checked pagefile size... no good.

Render a movie and play it. If the movie is of poor quality, then you
have a problem.

I'm running into exactly the same problem. It's driving me crazy! The
original video as imported into MM is fine - nice and crisp. When I drag it
into the timeline and play it, the quality is terrible and shows up
especially if any quick movements are present in the video. I went and
pulled some of the first movies I made with MM and didn't see this problem,
so I'm guessing that some update has caused it.

Thanks for the reply.
What I mean is, after you capture a movie MM shows the clips it
creates in one section. Down below there is a timeline where you edit
the movie. Clicking one of the clips up above (before adding to
timeline) the playback is just fine but if you attempt to playback
anything on the timeline it has the reduced quality. I agree that it
shouldn't make any difference because the file hasn't been saved
anywhere else or changed at all - that's what brings me here.
I removed it because one of the most basic things you do when
troubleshooting software is to reinstall it. However, Microsoft has
not made it at all easy to do this with MM. First I simply deleted the
program files and downloaded MM by itself from download.com. This
didn't work so I went through the trouble of removing SP2 and
reinstalled that since MM is embedded in it. Still having the reduced
quality when played back from the timeline.
I do have it set to download codecs when needed and have the latest
version of MM. Theoretically, if there was a problem with the codec it
would have a reduced quality in the original capture but obviously
there is something going on here that I don't understand.
I haven't really tweaked with the filters so I will try that and let
you know if that works.
Thanks

I know this has been asked before but I wanted to see if anyone has
come up with a possible solution for this.
I am capturing video from a DV camera using DV-AVI. The video and
audio in the clips that MM creates are just fine but anything played
back from the timeline has a very reduced quality in video and audio.
If I save the movie, it's at a lower quality even with an uncompressed
avi format. The original unedited file that was saved from the capture
is fine.
I've removed MM and reinstalled (what a pain in the ass) and am
still having the problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi
None of the above makes any sense to me?
"played back from the timeline"? It is undecided at this point
what the finished article will be.
Why "remove" MM? And how did you reinstall?
And now of course the obvious stuff, but have you tried
Windows Update for all/any available patches etc
Try this:
Open WMM
Click "Tools"
Then "Options"
In the dialog that appears select "Compatibilty" tab
Try a bit of trial and error with the digital filters,
Also, there is a link the the MS site.
But................
If any option has a Tick but is also greyed,
then click the General tab.
Ensure a tick is placed: "Download codecs automatically"
