Hello,
The info I found says that you must install to clean hard drive which is
what put me off.
I checked on Nero and have been told the same as your comments. I don't
use Roxio (spit) anymore.
The symantec performance testing software came up with an overall index
that was just under 2.9 times faster than a Dual P4 system....the graphics
test with the bouncing balls etc.....ridiculous...the balls moved so fast
that you cant really watch them.
The system has 8 fans on it one of which pumps air into the furniture
that contasins the machine. The mobo has a second processor dedicated to
maintaining all of the settings for overclocking etc. and has a
comprehensive list of options for warning signals for CPU, SYS Power and
Video temperatures/fan speeds and core temp voltage etc.....I have spent
most of today tweeking all of these settings and watching the performance
change. I crashed it twice today and thats revealed a flaw in the setup. The
machine is in a cabinet and I can't reach the power switch on the rear of
the computer!!! so I have had to throw the mains switch which I can
reach.... The front power switches are disabled in favour of controling
power-up from the keyboard.....which is obviously no use if the machine has
crashed (All I have to do is type a password and the machine turns itself
on)
Last night I discovered a usefull route when creating a DVD with Nero. I
had done my editing and started the process of build and burn the disc. it
proceeded well enough but I stopped it before completion...I then restarted
it but with the destination changed to Image File. I am going to have to do
this a few times more and properly time it. Accepting that the actual burn
time is always going to be the same it seemed to me that the creation
process was a decent amount faster. The machine is fast enough so as to make
this all academic....but it might be worth knowing for those with a slower
machine if its true and not just wishful thinking
I built this machine to do graphics work using Animation Master. A 3Ghz
P4 is OK but it is not much use when creating substantial photo realistic
rendering at DV settings Its so marvelously fast that I am using it for all
work....In the last week I have not even powered up my "normal" machine
(P4). I am building up to suggesting that I build another one....have to
test the water first with she who must always be obeyed :) This one cost an
arm and a leg. The one I would love is much the same but with two
processors. The argument I can use is that Animation Master understands true
multi tasking but all I have yet created with AM are some simple models and
got them to do daft things (A silver clad knight creeping forward on tip toe
the way you sometimes see in cartoons, after 6 steps it switches to walking
with hand on hip and a swagger and head held high. Very funny when done in
photo realistic mode but not a convincing argument for spending a lot more
money.
On the printer front, I have an A3 HP 1120C machine connected to a 2Ghz P4
on a wireless network. Its mostly used for creating high res and therefore
large cross stitch patterns. The people I make these for take around 12
months to create just one cross stitch. They do look rather nice...I convert
digital photos into the pattern and include all the DMC or Anchor info etc
But...I want a printer on top of the 64bit inside the cabinet and I have
dropped a boo boo.....the cabinet is not deep enough ... 13 inches depth.
Width and Height are OK.....the printers that will fit are dreadfull...I do
not really want one of those expensive to run photo printers as all my stuff
goes direct to DVD and if I wanted hard copy its much cheaper to take a card
to the local store stick it in the machine and get the printout that way.
I was going to buy a wireless network camera as well. I have asked a few
of the obvious questions and the answer came back so glibly I doubt if its
accurate so once XP 64bit is up and running I will write to the manufactures
and ask the specific questions regarding drivers. In the same store I was
once told that DVD+R spun in the opposite direction to DVD-R...and that chap
still works there !!!
Thanks for your comments,
John Kelly
