I received the following reply fom HP on a similar problem. I hope it helps
you:
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
I understand from your mail that you want to copy a VCR tape to DVD using
the media center tv tunner and Windows Movie Maker. As the VCR is in the
analog format and the later on which you want to copy will be in digital
format so this is not possible.
Further I would like to say that If you already have a FireWire (IEEE
1394) port on your PC and a DV camcorder, you can connect a VCR deck to your
camcorder (with phono and mini-jack connectors). You can then transfer your
analog material to digital format in the camcorder, and capture this footage
via the FireWire cable into your PC using muvee autoProducer. If you don't
have a FireWire port, you'll have to capture the analog material and convert
it into a digital format your PC.
One option is to install a PCI capture card into your PC -- one that accepts
analog video input and converts it to a digital format (DV, MPEG-1, etc). If
you'd prefer not to open up your PC, an external capture/conversion device
that can convert analog video signals from a VHS, Hi-8m or VHS-S camera into
digital files might be a better option.
You might want to note that a conversion device that works with a FireWire
card on your computer works much faster and generally gives you better
quality video than one with a USB port.
I assure that the information provided was helpful and would resolve your
issue. If you have further questions, please reply to this message and we
will be happy to help you.
Sincerely,
Peter
