Hello,
I am aware that there are problems with your card but can not remember
what they are....Your situation may be because of IRQ sharing where some
other device has been unreasonable :):) and locked the IRQ for its own
use...THAT would cause your type of problem......You need to check in the
device Manager for the card Graphics and Audio and see what IRQ's are
involved and make note of them....Then check your other devices...the quick
and easy check is...Right Click "My Computer" then select Manage > Device
Manager > View > Resources by Type > IRQ
In most cases its OK for an IRQ to be shared even if not desirable. You
can change the IRQ a device uses. DO NOT change any of the devices with an
IRQ number less than 10 but you can assign an IRQ less than 10 if it has not
already been assigned, and, you should restrict yourself to just the
Graphics card and the Audio card (Yes they can be the same physical card)
and both can have more than one IRQ number assigned (Multi function cards)
DO NOT change the ISA numbers.
Whatever else you do..WRITE down the values when you first see them so
that you have something to restore them to if it goes pear shaped. One note,
if you have installed an Audio or Graphics card of your own instead of using
an "onboard" card Make sure that you have disabled the onboard device in
Device Manager. Once you change an IRQ number you must reboot for that
change to take effect. While you are looking into the Device Manager you
should check out each of the device properties and ensure that there are no
warning messages in the status.
Having just tried this for the first time in XP I find that I cannot
change the IRQ number, the dialog box that you enable so that you can do
this is greyed out and I have not the time now to figure it out.
If in any case the above is no help, or you discover a device
conflict....you could take the alternate route of removing the card, reboot
the machine twice and then replace the card and follow the device found
wizard....I have to say that I am not very confident about this route.
I know this is a bit wishy washy, but hope it helps anyway..
