I'm with you on this one...I'm getting the same error
message. I have a sony ccd-trv608. Everything is
connected properly using the usb port. I hear the
connection tone when it's plugged in, but WMM just does
not what to do video capture. Not sure what to do next.

>This capturing error is pissing me off...I've tried
everything...i have a cannon zr 60 (dv camcorder) hooked
up to the computer via firewire using my 6 pin firewire
port from my Sound Blaster Audigy PCI card. In the past
my camera worked fine and capture video didnt have any
problems...but I've tried for the past two days to get it
to work using WMM 2.0 and it gives me this error
message "A video capture device was not detected. Verify
that a device is turned on and connected properly, and
then try again."... everything is connected properly and
windows even detects the plug and play firewire and
reads the camera as "Cannon DV Camcorder" on my
computer...but if i try to open the camera icon throught
My computer and then clicling on the camera icon to get
the camera folder i get this error message " Creation of
the video preview failed. Please check the device
connection and make sure that the device is not being
used by another application or user" ..all the latest
drivers are installed for the sound card ...idk about the
firewire port or the capturing driver for the sound
card ..but all drivers are working properly when i go to
device manager ...and only one user is logged on...PLEASE
HELP
