This generally is related to a problem establishing a secure connection with the Live ID
service to authenticate your account.

What happens if you try signing into your account at http://account.live.com within Internet
Explorer?

I get this error also with an Extended error code 80048416.
I have been getting this for several months now. I have tried almost
everything to fix this but with no luck. My old firewall was Norton but when
I uninstalled it I tried to sign in and same result. I now use Kapersky
Internet Security Suite. I have set MSNMessenger to be allowed and WLSetupSVC
also but still get same result.
