Thanks for your prompt reply and the link.However when i click on it the
page opens up and displays what looks like some sort of computer language and
not readable english,can you help?

I have windows messenger on Xp professional but would prefer to use windows
live which i am more used to.When i try to install windows live 8 it comes up
with this message under this heading c:\documents and
settings\it.win2006\local settings\temporar
Windows cannot access the specified device path or file.you may not have the
appropriate permissions to access the item. Any ideas?

What are you trying to update to? There is a Windows Messenger 5.1 it looks exactly
identical to what you're using now, and really only adds functionality for the corporate
space.

The consumer version of Messenger has moved to Windows Live Messenger, which isn't an
upgrade
from Windows Messenger but a completely different version. You do use the same sign in
credentials to log in though, and you'll have your same contact list.

(4.7.3001) when you already have the Windows XP home edition version 2002
service pack 2.
