Re: messenger in a corporate environment

I've currently got 5.1.0701 installed, and Communicator. I was using 5.x for
months without a problem (SIP based).

An add on (Plus) has features of:
--log conversations (and encrypt)
--tab interface

The current Communicator installation seemed better at first, but now it is
frustrating and not very stable when you leave windows open (i prefer to
leave windows open for a few days due to the nature of my work and the type
of contacts...it's very helpful to be able to scroll back in the same
conversation to lock task-orient. details within the topic thread - it
prevents you from having to do all the context memory work with every new
thread - it really speeds me up).

Oh and communicator isn't that stable with that many windows open (it's ok
with 3 or 4...).

For these reasons I'm trying to re-enable my 5.x installation, but somehow
all the SIP options are gone, and only .NET is available. I looked in
HKLM\Software\Policies\Messenger and there are very few no reg keys there
which I assume were deleted when Communicator was installed.

How can I recover this situation? This is extremely frustrating. I don't do
well with stupid, arbitrary artifical limitations... particularly when "it
was working before!".

Can you help?

You can use Messenger in a corporate environment if you setup an Exchange 2000 IM Server or
Live (SIP) Communications Server on the local network to connect to. Otherwise, yes, it's
just Passport/Windows Live ID accounts and the global .NET Messenger service.
