you are using Windows Messenger, with which you can't view the profile.
You could download and use Windows Live Messenger (http://get.live.com/messenger/) instead.

this depends on which version you use.
Under MSN Messenger, right-click the contact. In the context menu, click
"Profile".
Under Live Messenger, right-click the contact, and in the context menu, go
to View and then click onto Profile.
If you still can't view it, please let us know.
