MSN and Yahoo Messanger

Now MSN'user and Yahoo Messanger's user can communicate with each other.
Does that need Yahoo Messanger version 8.0 above.

one more question.
Is Yahoo ID Japan the same as other countries?
Why I can not login in a English version Yahoo Messanger with the ID applied in Japan.
On Yahoo Japan website,it seems that Yahoo Messanger's latest version is 7.0.

I just want to chat with friends In MSN by using a Yahoo ID Japan
