MSN Messenger is gone, it's now called Windows Live Messenger.
Windows Messenger 4.7 is straight from 2001 and is essentially 6 years out of date. If you
want to use audio and video Messenger functionality it is -highly- recommended you use
Windows Live Messenger instead as the experience has been greatly improved.
Windows 2000 will need to use MSN Messenger 7.0 however, as previous versions require Windows
XP. The audio/video functionality is fully backwards compatible with Windows Live Messenger
however.
MSN Explorer is Internet Explorer with a different shell and added functionality. However, I
would suggest not using it, as it's significantly old as well.

I am about to use Windows Messenger. I have Windows Messenger 4.7 on an XP
machine. I also intend to use a fairly simple Webcam and microphone in
addition to using text. Before I start:
Is this a reasonable version? or should I upgrade, and how?
What is the difference between Windows and MSN Messenger?
Can I use the same versions of Messenger on a Windows 2000 PC?
And lastly is MSN Explorer the same as for instance Windows Internet
Explorer 7?
I know how you can start using obsolete versions and waste a lot of time, so
I will be glad of any advice.
