Greetings,
Unfortunately Messenger has no real settings in the registry that aren't exposed in the UI
(and hasn't seen Messenger 4.x). As such, there's nothing for this.
In the Busy status there are no alerts.
However, using Messenger Plus you can set a notification when users come online (or anything
else to do with users actually) and set an audio alert with that.
You can grab Messenger Plus here @ http://www.msgpluslive.net (the version for 7.5 is @
http://www.msgpluslive.net/download/old) if you don't wish to upgrade to 8.0). Be aware that
there is an -optional- sponsor program included with Plus which prompts you during the setup
to either install or not. You do not need to install the sponsor program to install Plus.

i would like to be able to alter a setting (in the registry or otherwise),
that would allow me to recieve audio notifications of mail and messages.
