Re: Can't Transfer Files

Greetings Michaela,

Actually Messenger 6.0 and above should be able to send files regardless of your networking
environment as it can send files via the same connection you're writing your messages
(referred to as relaying). However, if your contacts aren't using the real Messenger client
(say Gaim or something else) or are using a version prior to Messenger 6.0, you'll get a
transfer failed message if it can't establish a direct connection.

Although Norton could be at fault, as long as Messenger is set to allow all internet traffic,
it should be fine. If the latter explanation isn't the problem, you may want to uninstall
Norton just temporarily to see if that's the issue.

Ok, I am stupid at this. I've been using MSN messenger for quite
awhile...it's always worked fine. I bought a new computer, have
Windows Live Messenger Version 8.0 installed. I am unable to transfer
files...it'll say "transfer failed."

My windows firewall is turned off. I have Norton Antivirus and Norton
Internet Security installed. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Michaela
