Making PC to PC telephone calls

Can anyone help please.
I and a colleague are trying to set up for PC to PC telephone calls using
MSN messenger.
The audio controls on both computers are correctly set up-----as far as we
know--but whenever either of us calls the other the the phones ring at both
ends but on clicking "accept" or pressing Alt+C the call is disconnected.
What are we doing wrong please?
