Problem with Netmeeting sharing on Windows XP

Hello,

I would like to share a solution to a problem with point to point
Netmeeting connections on Windows XP.

Ever since I went to Windows XP, I could not connect to a Netmeeting
session on a co-workers Windows XP box. I could do it from my Windows
2000 box, but not to his XP. We tried both directions, and could not
complete the connection. Sharing was greyed out, and the connection
seemed to be hung.

The problem is when using Netmeeting between machines where BOTH
machines have the Qos Packed Scheduler protocol installed.

The QoS Packet Scheduler is installed and selected by default for
network interfaces in Windows XP. In some systems, it seems to cause
strange things to happen with NetMeeting (and MSN/Windows Messenger).
There may be other applications that are affected as well.

For networks that do not have a server managing QoS,
disabling the QoS Packet Scheduler seems to be the best action (with no
side effects).

To disable QoS Packet Scheduler:

1) Open Network Connections.
2) Right Click the Local Area Connection on which you want to disable
QoS Packet Scheduler,
and then click Properties.
3) If QoS Packet Scheduler is listed and checked in the "Components
checked are used by this connection" box,
then select it, and then click on the uninstall button.

This will uninstall QoS Packet Scheduler for all network adapters and
VPNs.
