That article is lousy, useless and out of date, no one should be directed there. I'm sorry
to hear that you even had to read it.
Just forwarding ports will not work. Your needs to support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) so
that Messenger can determine your external IP address, automatically forward the port and
magically make it all work. Opening the port yourself will not work as it can't get the
external IP.
I did a bit of research for you and it appears the 2614 does not support UPnP. Although
there may be a firmware update for it that I'm not aware of (or more to the point, didn't
find in my initial Google search).
There's no need to close anything else, it doesn't really touch any apps specifically.
Additionally, I'm betting the router does support T.120. As such, you can forward 1503 to
your PC and then use Netmeeting's (Start, Run, conf) Application Sharing which is in fact the
same component but when started via Netmeeting doesn't require UPnP. Both parties will need
Netmeeting and you can start a "call" by clicking the Call menu, then New Call and entering
their IP.

I would really like to use Window messenger for application sharing and some of the
other features. I have read the Microsoft article about this and I think I know the ports
and everything but obviously I don't because I can't get this working. So please don't
direct me there. :)
Is there anyone who has set this up and had it worked not in an office?
Application sharing is the main focus so please describe in detail what I need to do.
As I understand it Port 1503 is the one for application sharing and white board - what
confuses me when I change my SpeedStream 2614 is that it has a Trigger port, Trigger Type,
Public Port and public Type - but the one I tried and work a lyncsys does not have the
Triggers.
I have windows Firewall going on my Xp and Windows Messenger and Windows netmeeting are
marked under the Exceptions tab.
In testing this I had a strange error, can't remember exactly but it regarded something
about other programs being open - Is it best to keep Outlook or any other program closed?
Also what exactly should I be seeing when I invite someone? We get the invite message
and the accept message but then nothing show up until we hit the invite again but then this
show the "not in call".
