Jonathan,
You can do the same thing by right clicking on the contact and selecting
delete. The menu that appears gives you the option of blocking the contact
and deleting him/her from hotmail contact list. But this doesn't delete the
contact. He/she is still available in the list of contacts that have your
email details. Simply by looking in tools>options>privacy>view your contatc
will still be visible.

Is this a Hotmail account that you're logging into Messenger with? If so,
you can go into Hotmail and then to the Contacts tab and delete the
contact there.

Every time I try and delete the same contact windows messenger signs me
out..
saying person cannot be deleted at this time? How do I get rid of this
