Re: logg in prob.

Hi,

No I don't work for Microsoft but I work with them. This issue is well known internally
already.

It's on their blogs, I don't know if they plan to go more elaborately into a wide-scale fix
(I would hope so).

Wow! That fixed my problem, and I've gone to great lengths to try to figure
out the problem. Do you work for Microsoft, or are you in a position to be
able to let them know that 100's if not 1000's of people have been affected
by this, and they should send out a patch to fix it.

I'm not your novice user, I dug into the registry and everything, but I also
know better than to just delete keys in the registry.

Please, please let Microsoft know that they need to send a patch out for
this. Your regular user will never figure this out, in fact most of the
people I know, couldn't even figure out how to get into this newsgroup.

Hi,

Yes they are fully aware of the problem. What happened was a few days ago the Messenger
service put an erroneous Messenger policy into anyone who attempted to sign in during a
specific time.

The .reg simply removes the policies key in the registry and therefore allows you to
sign-in
again.

Just so you're aware, there is no security breach, it was simply an accidental error on
the
Microsoft side. Appreciate the feedback.

Hi Jonathan,

Your fix worked for me. Can you explain what the problem is in more
technical terms. This problem seems to be affecting hundreds of people. Do
the people at Msmessenger know about this problem??

Just so that you have a better set of symptoms, here are mine, and your
patch fixed it for me....

I'm having the same problem. I put in the login, and password, and it
starts the login, and then just sits there with those little pawns spinning
around. If I'm logged in on my other computer, it logs me off messenger there
too.

It started for my about October 15/16. Funny thing is I can't login using
the signin that I usually use, but if I use anotherr one, it signs in fine,
which to me tells me that my software is ok. I can also login to this account
on another computer, just not this one.

I tried uninstalling MSMessenger 8.0, deleting all the associated files, and
even cleaning it out of the registry, rebooting, and then reinstalling, and
it still fails. I came here as a last resort, and I see that there are many
people having the same issue. COuld it be this problem is related to
Microsoft, or some new security breach?

Greetings,

To attempt to correct this, shut down Messenger entirely by right-clicking on its icon
in
the
notification area and choosing Exit, then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/remove_wlmpolicies.reg

Then try signing in again.
