Greetings,
Windows Messenger can be removed by clicking the Start button, then click Run and type in
(copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,

I have lost my windows messenger icon on the system tray & via going through
'all programs', when clicking on windows messenger, I am directed to 'my
computer'. I want to uninstall or at least turn off windows messenger from
signing on when I go online. My girlfriend was chatting on my computer (I
have never chatted nor ever wanted to) & subsequently when I went online, her
IM address was signing in & I was being inundated with all her messages. She
tried to turn off her IM address from signing in when I go online & left me
with no icon & no means to get into the menu structure of windows messenger,
except I am still getting all her messages. I just want to stop being annoyed
by her IM address signing in & all the pop-ups appearing on my computer when
her friends are wanting to message with her.
