Programmatically determine who is logged into MSN Messenger in multi-user environment

We have a number of people working in shifts on a particular computer
monitoring the status of our network & providing Customer Service.
The computer is never turned off, and nobody logs in or out, so the computer
always has the same user login name.
However, what the shift workers do is to log in to individual MSN Messenger
accounts when they start their shift, so customers & supervisors know who is
on shift at the time. This is basically the only indication we have of who is
online at the time.
What I want to do is tap into this information so I can automate the emailing
of some information when systems fail. Basically I want to be able to find
out who is online, so I can use that information in the signature line of the
outgoing email, so there is one less piece of information that needs to be
typed manually by the shift worker.
Looking around I see that there used to be an API, but that is no longer
valid since version 6. Does anyone know how I could programmatically find out
who is online & using MSN Messenger 7.5? I'm using VB.Net if that makes any
difference.
Thanks,
Dave
