Windows Live Messenger is no longer in beta.
Media Center 2005 does not use Live Messenger for its IM capabilities within
the Media Center UI (it uses Windows Messenger, a different product). You
can use Windows Live Messenger outside of the Media Center UI without issue;
however, you will need to have Windows Messenger installed if you want to
use Messenger functionality inside the Media Center UI.
FWIW, the Messenger integration into the Media Center UI will not be built
into Vista, as there is no included version of Messenger that the Media
Center UI can hook into...

Could anyone share experience they have had installing Messenger Live on a
MCE 2005 PC? I just finished reformatting and reinstalling everything on
my Gateway 834GM MCE 2005 and I would like to load Messenger Live, but I
am concerned since it is still in Beta. Does it work well with MCE 2005?
Any major problems? Does it uninstall well? Would you suggest loading MSN
Messenger or Messenger Live at this time?
