On Usenet too. And yes written down is typed as well.
Thousands of my posts are scattered on Usenet but, in most cases, i am cited
as the author. I have no problem with that, because i have posted a reply in
good faith to help other user's. Some people dislike their prose being
scattered to the four winds of cyber space that is their prerogative. IP
numbers are easily traced anyway and all newgroups keep records of where the
post has been sent from etc, so with a little bit of work the culprit can be
found.
A recent incident actually comes to mind whereby, while checking my website
statistics, i came across a site i hadn't seen before. Upon investigating
further the link took me to a website that specialised in Windows XP help
and support. The site was well laid out and had some useful tips. I then
noticed a Windows XP faq link. Well i like to know what information other
sites are giving out, if only to make sure i am up to date on my own
website. Imagine the surprise when i clicked on the link and found 125 pages
of my own website 'pasted' into this website. The only thing missing was my
website masthead. The guy hadn't even linked the page to my site, he had
simply copied the whole lot and pasted into his site. Now if that isn't
copyright infringement i don't know what is. A quick cease and desist notice
to the guy in question and a copy to his web hosting company followed by a
threat of legal action soon closed him down.
As i've said newsgroup posts don't bother me (unless they are libellous). It
simply depends upon where your priorities lie.

On Usenet too? I don't think so...

Legally anything that it written down is copyright, even your post. There
is nothing specific that you have to do to make it copyright. Okay add
the copyright symbol if you like but it doesn't make a lot of difference.
Copyright actually swings into action when someone deliberately copies
your words and 'passes them off' as their own. Quoting someone is rather
different. So long as the quote is no more than 10 percent of the initial
material and is enclosed in quotes and the copyright owner acknowledged
then that is fine.
