How I uninstalled Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.1

Don't know if this info has been talked about before, if so,
sorry.
Been trying to get rid of Windows Messenger 5.1 for 4 hours.
First looked in Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, wasn't there.
Tried RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
And this stopped msmsgs from starting in the processes list and
eliminated starting when starting Outlook Express, BUT, when I
started Adobe Acrobat 6 the installer started and forced a
reinstall. Every time.
I Googled and found a reference to a similar problem and
the solution given was to run msiexec /x {1F0BD960-6525-4FEE-B577-2473F77F1277}
That came back with a notice "only works when the program in installed" or
somesuch, even though it was installed at the time.
I then searched Microsoft.com for the latest download of Windows Messenger
and finally found it, and downloaded messenger.msi (9/16/05). When I started
it offered to repair the Messenger installation or uninstall it. Uninstall
was grayed out, so I chose repair.
After that, WM worked same as ever. But now there was a uninstall
option given when right clicking on messenger.msi which I selected
and after asking if I was REALLY SURE, the uninstall went just like
any other.
And it's gone, or at least hidden. No more startups with OE, no problems
running Acrobat, no option to select messenger virus scan in Norton, nothing.
