I too have this problem. Let me share the tests I did to isolate the
problem.
As a start let me say that this problem did not exist about a year ago.
I tested the remote assistance with 3 different computers with all possible
combninations. Only one of the 3 showed this problem.
All 3 computers are behind a router with firewall 2 on the same network
and the other at a different location. So we can eliminate the
router or the firewall as the source of the problem. All 3 computers have
Windows XP SP2 installed with an antivirus I disabled them with no change.
Now for the bits and pieces:
Then I looked at the running tasks in different situation. It showed me that
helpctr.exe and wmiprvse.exe are the 2 involved in remote assistance using
Windows Messenger. wmiprvse.exe seems to be the source of the problem.
Now I have to figure out what is really happening.
I will post back here any findings.

Remote assistance failed please try later,,,, ,Is the message that comes
up on my screen when somebody sends an invite and wants assistance from
me. through msn messenger .
The strange thing is other pc.s can view my screen if i send them an
invitation ,But i can not for some reason view theire screens as the
assistance seems to work only one way.
I have tried with the firewall off ,With anti virus off , all remote
assistance boxes are checked .Windows messenger is also enabled.
Have checked the services list with a pc that is working correctly with
remote assistance.
