Re: Disable MSN messenger

Greetings,

There's some built-in Windows ways of stopping the msnmsgr.exe executable from running, but
they could simply rename the executable.

There are no specific GPO settings within the application itself (the ones you describe below
work in MSN Messenger 4.x and Windows Messenger only).

Hi, I manage small office network and I need to disable MSN messengers.
Because messengers keep being installed, it is useless to just remove them.
Is there any way to disable use or installation of MSN messenger at all? It
looks like the MSN messenger 7.5 runs, no matter how I try to disable it.
(Users have administrative rights, not limited because some of our programs
do not run under limited accounts.)

These are the methods I tried but failed to work.
1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client
PreventRun=1, PreventAutoRun=1
1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client
PreventRun=1, PreventAutoRun=1

Thanks in advance.
