Greetings Ceowin,

Do you clear your Internet Explorer/Temporary Internet Files cache a lot? If so, this is
where the display pictures for your contacts are stored, so if you empty the cache, you will
lose these images.

Messenger won't reload them until you actually re-open a conversation window to your contact
or look at their contact card.
