Assuming both users are using MSN Messenger 7.5, a direct connection won't be required as a
relay server is in place. However, if the relay was blocked by a firewall or similar, then
you might experience difficulty.
As long as the router supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) a direct connection should be
automatic however.
