unable to delete messages


when i try to delete messages from my inbox, messenger succesfully
transfers to the "trash can". However, when i then try to delete
permanantly from the trash can the messages wont delete. "error occured
click here to resolve". when i click to resolve, a box appears with the
words "do you want to permanantly delete these messages". when i click
"yes" nothing happens and the mesages remain. pleeeeeeeeese help
