Windows Messenger Remote Assistance Connection Problem

I am running Windows XP Home Edition and Windows Messenger Version 5.1
(5.1.0.0680); and am trying to accept Remote Assistance from a friend running
the same software configuration.

I want to reach in and help him with his PC apps problems. Unfortunately,
when I get the dialog box that states “Attempting to connect with <my
friend>”, it never connects so I can give him Remote Assistance. It hangs up
and never connects.

I am running Norton Internet Security, but disable it during the attempt.
What may be the problem?

Thanks for the help.
