Blocked Files

I still can't work out the exact reason for the extensive list of blocked
files.
I know that some of them are to stop the virus from spreading, but other
extensions (i think .mp3 and .avi come to mind) i've never heard of having
viruses in.
So why have they blocked all of these?
Is it an anti-piracy ploy?
Is there going to be a relaxation of these, maybe disabling the ability to
disable the warning message about receiving files, then at least MS can say
"we did warn you"
.
