Disappearing mails

It's happened a couple of times now - especially annoying when I've
just written a long mail - I go to send and the whole thing disappears
down a black hole! I've looked everwhere for the missing mail -
drafts, temp files even on the floor behind the PC!

Any ideas what's going on? Corrupt file? Don't think it's a virus. If
I re-install Messenger would I loose all my old mails and contacts?
