This morning, my attempts to sign on to Windows Messenger 4.7 on my Windows
XP Pro SP2 PC failed, displaying the following message in a popup:

--
Windows Messenger could not sign you in to the .NET Messenger Service.
xxx@yyy.com is a valid .NET Passport, but there was a problem signing in
with this account.
Before you can sign in, you must fix the problem at the .NET Passport Web
site.
[Go to .NET Passport Web Site] [Cancel]
--
However, when I surf on over to the .NET website, following message is
displayed:
--
Microsoft® .NET Passport was temporarily unable to complete your request.
Please try
  again later.

Although this problem logging on to Windows Messenger did not appear
"immediately" after anything I changed, I have recently installed ZoneAlarm
Pro and QuickBooks Pro 2005. That is, I was able to sign on to Windows
Messenger immediately after installing ZoneAlarm, and was even able to sign
on to Windows Messenger after several reboots of my Notebook, following the
installation of ZoneAlarm. Still, I can't help but be a little suspicious
when I install ZoneAlarm yesterday, and this afternoon I am unable to sign
on to Windows Messenger (I was able to sign on this morning?).
