why won't my messenger sign in

My internet stopped working the other day and I called
tech support for help, they told me what to do and the
problem was solved. I can now get on to the internet but
neither of my messengers (aim and msn) will work, they
keep saying its something to do with the connectivity. I
already tried uninstalling msn and downloading it again,
but it didn't help. Can anyone give me any idea of whats
going on.
