Friend with WM 6.2 - shows as offline

I have a friend in the east (Ontario, Canada) and I'm in the west (Alberta,
Canada). We can't see eachother online. I see local friends, but not him.
He recently installed 6.2 and says that all of his contacts display as being
"offline", including me! Are there any problems in the east ... i.e., a
server problem, or high traffic issues, or could it be a setting. We've
been having this problem for the last couple of weeks ... not being able to
see eachother online.
