can't sign in to windows messenger or msn

Get "unknown error" at msn with several usernames. Can't log in with
messenger either. Can't get to hotmail.com. any known problems with
servers at the west coast. Something odd is going on here as I have
not been able to log on in several days on several computers with
several user names. No sp2 no virus no adware.
