2 copies of messenger AFTER XP SP2 install

Any reason why I have two copies of messenger open at startup?

In my system tray there are two copies of messenger. One is automatically
signed in, the other is not. I don't want two copies to open at start up.
How do I remove a copy of messenger and how do I make sure I remove the right
one?
