Unable to connect

I am hoping someone will be able to help me with this.

I have Windows XP Pro. I have downloaded MSN Messenger 6.2 and am unable to
connect to the service, when I go into Connections and enter my proxy server
it says " Success you are connected to the MSN service" but I am still unable
to log in.
If i uncheck the proxy server box I still cant connect- this is extremely
frustrating now.

I also get the error code 0x81000306
What am I doing wrong?????????
