needs help

i have a problem with msn messenger.i want to start audio\video conversation with my family & freinds but i think i cant do it becaues of enable firewall.i know how to disable firewall but i don't want to disable it because it gives proection to pc .now iwant to know how i am able to recive files & start audio\video to the people who i know in msn messenger?
